Last of Summer

"Last of Summer" GreenPrints Autumn Cover 2012

I have been so engrossed in creating sketches for "Animals" that I forgot to post my most recent work for GreenPrints!  This is a cover I did several weeks ago for the Autumn issue.  I enjoyed working on this painting and had a great time creating the indian corn and cabbage fingers.  Both items were the most time consuming but I feel it paid off in the long run.

The issue has been released and I have started receiving emails from gardeners interested in prints.  I posted a mini print for the budget conscious on my etsy store and will be posting larger sizes in a day or so.  Enjoy the last of summer everyone!

Orchid Detail

These are some details of a painting I am working on. It's almost complete. After it is sent off to the client I'll post the full image for your review. I'll talk a bit about my process as well.

End of the Year Clean Up

Watercolor on Bristol

It's amazing how teaching at three different colleges can put me in a tail spin during the span of one semester. Once I finish with a lesson I dump the bag filled with whatever material I was using in my studio until I can find time to clean it out. Well, I just did one of five totes tonight and found this watercolor study. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to finish it. I would like to say that I'll work on the chipmunk and spider but in all honesty that probably won't happen. Watercolors are fun but by no means are they my forte.

This will end up in my file of misfits. Unloved and unfinished. But I at least grabbed one swatch to use in a pattern repeat for your viewing pleasure.

Happy new year to all and may you find organization and cleanliness in your studio.

Painting Demo

This is a demo I did for my class at the University of the Arts. The class is based on the techniques of Corel Painter...a digital program that mimics traditional medium. I used an image of one of my mom's irises and painted it using the the oil brushes. No matter if you choose to paint digitally or traditionally you have to understand drawing, composition, color and value. The computer will not magically make everything beautiful which is a common misconception when considering digital work.

Rose Garden

I created this illustration for a client's poetry.  I'm thinking of taking it to final color.  Thanks for looking!
