Orange Flower

SOLD
Here's a small oil painting I did a while ago. There are some parts I enjoy and others not so much. The palette is warm and inviting but the actual structure of the flower became too contrived and over worked. It reminds me of a feathery lollipop.

Watercolor attempt

My sister in law got me a great travel watercolor kit for Christmas (last year) and I've been playing around with it.  I always enjoyed the opaque mediums much more than the translucents but I wanted to give it another shot.  I've got a few more that I'll post in a little bit.  This is based off of a display at the Philadelphia Flower show.  It was very Parrish-ish.

Illuminated Flowers

SOLD

In this 5"x5" oil painting I tried to get a glowing feel that transcended through the petals. I think the petals glow...but not exactly as I wanted them to. None the less I got to play with high contrast and thicker strokes. I still am aspiring to loosen up a bit. Maybe some where down the road!

Bronze award

I just got back from a great vacation out west and when I checked my email I saw that I won an award. What a great thing to come back to. It is for my winter garden piece located a few entries below. Check out CreativeShake.com and all the winners!

Landscape Study

This little study was done on left over pastel paper I found floating around my office drawer. I gave it a coating of matte medium to seal the porous surface and then drew out my scene with oils. Using a photo I took on vacation in central Pennsylvania I manipulated the colors after another painting's color scheme, a process used by many artists. Working during breaks I only had three small windows of time for basic exploration.

Pink Rose

SOLD
This was a small oil study completed in one morning. It's been awhile since I worked in oils and encountered some old problems I forgot about. White can be such a killer! It was accepted into the small oils show at the Philadelphia Sketch club and will be up for another week. I'm excited to work on the next one but will not be able to get to it until classes end in a few weeks.
